SYDNEY, Dec 23 AAP - A man and a woman have been charged after police seized a kilogram of cocaine worth almost half a million dollars during a vehicle stop in Sydney.

Raids on two houses following the find also uncovered 60 cannabis plants worth $300,000, police said.

The couple were arrested about 1am (AEDT) on Tuesday after officers noticed them acting suspiciously while police were patrolling Lance Street, Greystanes, as part of operation targeting property crime.

Police followed their vehicle, after an initial attempt to stop them failed, and a bag was thrown from the car.

Officers recovered the bag - containing a kilogram of cocaine with an estimated street value of $450,000 - before stopping the car a short distance away.

A man and a woman were arrested and taken to Merrylands police station for questioning.

A subsequent raid on three properties - at Fairfield, Hoxton Park and Milperra - turned up hydroponics equipment and 60 mature cannabis plants.

A 43-year-old man and 37-year-old woman have both been charged with supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug and recklessly dealing with the proceeds of crime.

They both have been refused bail to appear in Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday.
